Wijk-Up Ghandiplein Brugge 2006 - Furniture and lighting

When the greenbelt between 2 social blocks was reorganised, the visual artist Heidi Voet was asked to expand her project of trees and flowerbeds (2002) with footpaths and new plantings. The furniture and the lighting completely fits in with the dynamic and asymmetric design of Voet. A 42 metres line of light runs parallel with the footpath. The fitting is underground, only the glass cover plate is aboveground. The benches are made out of metal beams with a wooden seat. One 12 metres long volume accentuates the light line / footpath perspective. The other bench is a random stack of 2 beams, which offers the possibility of using the object as table or as platform as well.
Commissioned by the City of Brugge.
