Monument for Hieronymus Lauweryns Watervliet 2006
The monument consists of three volumes, together making up a beam of 5 x 2 x 0,5 metres.
The largest volume is a large, low unfinished natural stone. Next to it there is a steel beam. In between both volumes a line of light is integrated.
The choice of form and materials for this humble monument is inspired by the typical landscape around Watervliet. The creek area of Meetjesland owes its wide views to a grid of canals, rectilinear fields and rows of trees to the realisations of engineer, artist, visionary Hieronymus Lauwerijn.
The monument can be found on the outskirts of the central village square 'Het Stee'.
Natural stone, corten steel, plexiglass, LED-lighting.
Commissioned by the Province of East-Flanders.
