Monument for Basiel De Craene Waarschoot 2006 - Not carried out

If Basiel De Craene inspired and promoted the poetry of his time, this monument is mainly intended as a monument in honour of the poetry of all time. The design comprises a 3 metres high pavilion with a surface area of 28 mē. This pavilion is open at the top and has walls of standing coloured glass on a tiled floor. There are two cutouts, giving access to the pavilion, and the whole is constructed on the square next to the church. Poetry offers a different outlook on life. This monument first and foremost wants to give the visitor a different perspective on the immediate surroundings. This experience can be obtained within the pavilion as well as outside. Within, the immediate surroundings can be observed by looking through the different colours of the glass, or one can see a fragmented sky, clouded, blue or dark, but always limited. Outside, the pavilion is a shining coloured object on an open square, which will project light in all its shades of colour, like an optical lens. Always different, according to the time of the year, the season, the day and the weather conditions.
Commissioned by the Province of East-Flanders.
