Memorial stone for Linde - Graveyard Kruishoutem - realisation April 2010

This memorial stone is made in memoriam Linde V., who was only 21 years old when she died. Her parents, brother and sister asked me to make an unpretentious mausoleum expressing the fragility, the budding youth and the dynamic personality of Linde

In honour of Linde her father - who is an internationally renowned azalea grower - has cultivated a new azalea, registered under the name of "Noralinde". The parcel of land measures three and a half meters wide and two meters long, and is entirely planted with the white azalea "Noralinde".

The monument consists of three beam-shaped standing Balegem stones, arranged side by side in a row and spanning the respective burial grounds of father, mother and Linde. The stones contain many fossils as if it were a beach where hundreds of shells wash ashore. The stones are covered with a fine bronze construction supporting two horizontal sheets with texts in deep relief. The whole is connected with a large bronze bouquet of true-to-life leaf buds* as they grow on the trees in the early spring.

*The leaf buds are true-to-life casts of leaf buds from the horse chestnut in spring (cf. picture).
